Aham Bhramvasvi

Dalai Lama’s book – Universe in an atom, states the connectivity of the microcosm with the macrocosm. The Vedic idiom “Aham Bhramvasvi” too relates the human being to the universe in the same way. The rapport between the human being and the universe does not confine just to the physical realm but to the mental and spiritual too.

In the physical realm, normal and dark matters play their role so as to maintain a stable universe. If it weren’t for the gravity of dark matter the infinitesimal particles would have flung far away from each other after the big bang to never form a universe that can sustain a life form. And if the dark matter would have been more then the gravity would form clumps with no neutral hydrogen needed for stars and ultimately collapse into a massive Blackhole.

But when it comes to human beings the task that can be achieved is divine not just stability of the universe since apart from physical they have mental and spiritual prowess too.

Usually everyone contributes to the whole but their scope is limited to family, society, money, glory and curiosity.

Aham means self but not the usual self. It is what remains after all the definitions are stripped from an individual. It is called in various cultures as soul, spirit, atman, etc. In truth it is what we all know as God; it is called soul when still in transit and not yet merged with the one principle operating in the universe.

So in essence the term – Aham Bhramvasvi –states in 2 words the principal truth that the diverse universe is but made of one stuff-mind stuff. It cajoles us to identify ourselves as the spirit that is mirrored in infinite forms for play, occupation or self-realization.

In a limited version it can be stated as- our universe is a reflection of ourselves. Though each one inherently possesses divine powers, due to an objective world vision indulges in only a mind play for gratifying oneself. This alienates us from our spiritual aspect which gives us magical powers (desires are fulfilled but beware what u desire) and lead a wondrous life with a child’s enthusiasm.

Aham Bhramvasvi takes one to the limit which is- we are one with the universe. This infinity is reached if the mind resolves all existential queries and in the process encompasses the whole universe. Even in a limited sense this idiom applies to the immediate atmosphere that one appreciates and considers part of his universe and therefore is in constant flux with it.
